This study investigates the residual mechanical properties of bio-inspired carbon-based composites designed with a multilayer toughened shell-pearl architecture. Mimicking the structural principles of natural armor systems, such as nacre, the composite integrates hard and soft layers to improve impact resistance, crack deflection, and energy dissipation. Even after damage, these composites exhibit excellent strength retention and durability under extreme mechanical loads. The innovative design provides a promising pathway for developing lightweight, tough, and resilient materials for aerospace, defense, and protective equipment applications, pushing the boundaries of bio-mimetic engineering and composite performance.
